Dailies

The Digital Dailies Lab can be run from our offices or deployed at a fixed location for your production. The lab is responsible for the creation of “Dailies" (also known as “Rushes"), which are unedited footage viewed by the heads of departments to evaluate the day's work. Below is an overview of the general procedures involved in a digital dailies lab

Backup of Rushes

Checksum verification and seal/verify is generated for all media to ensure no corruption or data loss during transfer from set. Camera and Sound metadata (e.g., timecode, lens info, camera settings) is extracted and stored for reference. This metadata is crucial for post-production processes.

Full QC

  • Review of any notes from set

  • Logging and QC of all media

  • Creation of PDF reports for Editorial and Post-production

Transcoding and Sound Sync

Exposure and Colour decisions made by the DOP on set are applied via CDLs created by the On-Set DIT

  • Audio Syncing with corresponding video files

  • Transcoding of synced footage into lighter formats for edit assembly and dailies platform review

  • Transcodes will be watermarked (for security purposes) with on-screen timecode and file info burn-in as required.

Upload to Edit and/or Online Dailies Platform

  • Once processed, transcodes and accompanying media formatted for edit is sent on physical storage devices or uploaded via cloud transfer. Transcodes for dailies review will be uploaded to a secure streaming service.

LTO Archiving

  • LTO (Linear Tape-Open) Archiving is a reliable and cost-effective solution for storing large volumes of data, particularly in the film and media industries.

Here’s an overview of its key features and benefits:

  • Data Preservation

LTO tapes are designed to last up to 30 years when properly maintained. This durability makes them ideal for archiving valuable content,

ensuring that it remains accessible for future use.

  • High Capacity and Cost-Effectiveness

With up to 18TB uncompressed and 45 TB with compression of storage capacity, LTO archiving offers a lower cost per terabyte than

hard drive or cloud storage solutions

  • Data Security

LTO tapes can be encrypted, providing an additional layer of security for sensitive or proprietary content.

This feature protects against unauthorized access, ensuring that valuable data remains safe.

  • Efficiency and Speed

LTO data transfer speeds have improved significantly, making the archiving process faster and more efficient, therefore, reducing the time needed to archive large datasets.

  • Compatibility and Longevity

LTO is an open standard, which means that equipment from various manufacturers can read any LTO using the LTFS standard.

  • Environmental Impact

Using LTO for archiving can be more environmentally friendly than constantly replacing hard drives, as tapes require less energy

for storage and can have a smaller carbon footprint.

In summary, our Dailies Service provides a swift, secure and efficient  turnaround of the day's rushes, helping to keep the post-production workflow streamlined and on schedule
